Race Dates: May-June 2026
It starts with Short Track. I don't know why, it doesn't even matter how hard I've tried, I've always had bad luck at Short Track π
From pure scheduling challenges preventing my attendance to my nailing the holeshot, quickly followed by crashing myself out through a leafy corner in the first lap (it was like ... corner 4?). I've flatted in the first lap. I've shown up late and raced with the "Advanced" category π (I'm a self-upgraded Cat 4 who's never stood on an off-road podium). I've shown up with a dead Di2 battery and raced single speed.
Single Speed or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bike
Last year I got a whiff of single speed, practically by accident, and immediately caught feels. Sinceβ I've converted my CAAD13 π That bike now has zero π« derailleurs, 40cm alloy handlebars, a 165mm 1x 40T crank, a Shimano Alfine chain tensioner (look, I'm still figuring it out mk? MK??), and no bar tape. As I am 5' 8" fresh off a stretch and thinking tall thoughts, I typically run 38cm/36cm on my road/crit bikes. 40cm feels almost silly wide but, on this CAAD13 .. without the bar tape ... IDK it's like the peak of my goldilocks zone. Not too big, not at all small, but certainly comfy and easy to tweak + service. Yet another reason I will likely be running this as my pit bike for the upcoming 2026-2027 Cyclocross season.
After all #CrossIsComing
As for my trusty SuperSix EVO CX 2 x 12 speed ... that one will (soon?) be getting the same basic conversion with a 165mm 1x 40T crank and enough hub spacers to dial in my new Single Speed wheelset buuuuut now with less than a week to perform said maintenance π¨βπ§
Wish me luck! π See you there!

Friday & Saturday, May 22 & 23
ALERT π¨ THIS IS NOT A DRILL π¨ NEW CRIT FRIDAY
This is NOT A DRAG RACE. This ALL-NEW crit course will keep it's Friday event namesake "Streets of Fire" but that might be the only familiar piece of this event. What was once a drag race sprint from point A to point B is now a half-mile long course with 6-turns in downtown Winston-Salem where only three categories are available to register: D1/Pro Women, D1/Pro Men, and an Open Cat 2/3
Houston, we have a new "twilight crit" π
What makes these streets so fire? It's all about TIME β°
Open Cat 2/3 @ 6:30 PM Β» racing for 30 minutes π³ ... thirty
D1/Pro Women @ 7:15 PM + D1/Pro Men @ 8:15 PM » will each race for only 45 minutes π€― ... my local Cat 4 Tuesday night training Crit is 45 minutes. Yes, these streets will indeed be on fire. Let's all keep the rubber side down out there, yeah fam? Call me a circus, find me a trapezeβ I'm balancing feels between truly terrified and giddy with glee about watching this one. I can't wait to see who chooses to unload what strategy in a 45 minute dogfight at mach- hallelujah, the night before Saturday's USA Crits series finale.
Be it NOT in vain ... for these Streets of Fire on this Friday evening shall, this year, be officially deemed as Race #7 of 8 within the USA Crits series overall.
AND THEN ...
Saturday, May 23 = Race #8 of 8 within the USA Crits series overall + Gears & Guitars.
Gears & Guitars = FREE live music on stage at Bailey Park, inside the final corners of Saturday's figure 8 race course.
